Problem:

mSATA drives are smaller than most SEDs and require an mSATA to SATA adapter to connect both internally to the motherboard and externally when slaved.

The adapter which ships with the laptop may or may not work externally (the drive will not be recognized in Windows Device Manager). A supported adapter may need to be purchased for slaving the drive.

Solution:

The following mSATA to SATA adapters have been validated for use with Wave software:

  • Renice MiniPCIe mSATA to SATA SSD Adapter
  • Syba mSATA SSD to 2.5-Inch SATA Adapter (SY-ADA40050)
  • Micro SATA Cables -mSATA to SATA Adapter

Place the mSATA drive into one of the adapters above and connect it to the supported Startech enclosure (StarTech 2.5" eSATA & USB Drive Enclosure SAT2510U2E or S251SMU33EP) for external mSATA drive management.
