The current installation of Dell Data Protection | Access (DDP|A) is corrupt, fails to open, or requires removal.
Dell Data Protection | Access versions 2.0.X, 2.1.X, 2.2.X, 2.3.X installed on:
Precision Desktops: R5500, T1500, T1600, T1650, T3500, T3600, T5500, T5600, T7500, T7600
Optiplex Workstations: 380, 580, 760, 765, 780, 790, 960, 980, 990, 9810, 7010, 9010, XE
DDP|A is accessible
If applicable and desired, backup TPM and PIM data to be restored after reinstall of the software.
If DDP|A is not accessible, click here.
Backup Security Settings and Data
- TPM keys and passwords data backup.
- Open Access and select Advanced > Maintenance > Credential Archive & Restore.
- Select Backup your security credentials (password protected) and Next.
- Enter all requested passwords and select Next.
- Create a password for the archive. Do not lose this password. You will not be able to restore the keys without it.
- Browse to a location for the Archive file (we strongly recommend using external media, i.e. USB Flash Drive, CD-R, etc.) and select OK to continue.
- When the archive process is complete, select Finish.
- Private Information Manager (PIM) keys and data must be backed up from within PIM.
- Open PIM and log in when prompted.
- Right click on the (PIM) System Tray icon to access Settings.
- Select the Backup Tab and then select Backup.
- The PIM backup wizard will start; select OK to continue.
- Select a target location and name for the backup and select Save. (we strongly recommend using external media, i.e. USB Flash Drive, CD-R, etc.) Create the password that is used to protect the password archive.
- You will be prompted to enter the TPM owner password. Select OK to continue.
- PIM will back up the data and the TPM keys to the target location.
Perform System Reset
- Open Access and select Advanced > Maintenance > Reset System.
- Check the box for ‘I understand that this will reset my system to factory Dell settings’ and select Next.
- Enter all required passwords and select Next.
- Select Start Reset.
- Select Yes to reboot your system when prompted.
Uninstall DDP|A - *Versions 2.2.x, 2.3.X require only step 1 and 2.
- Navigate to:
Vista/Windows 7: Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features
Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
- Select and uninstall Dell Data Protection| Access *
- Reboot the machine. *
- Select and uninistall Dell Data Protection|Access|Middleware
- Select and uninistall Dell Data Protection|Access|Drivers.
- Dell Data Protection|Access|Pre-Requisite (XP/Vista OS only)
- Reboot the machine.
If DDP|A cannot be accessed and a System password or Pre-Windows Authentication has been configured, use the Dell BIOS to clear your System password.
Use the Dell BIOS to disable Pre-boot authentication
- Reboot the machine and press F2 at the Dell BIOS Splash Screen.
- Enter the System or Admin Password to access the BIOS settings.
- Navigate to Security > Passwords.
- Select System Password. Enter the old System password, leave the new password fields blank and select OK.
- The System Password status will change to ‘Not Set’.
- Repeat the previous steps for Hard Drive Password if one is set.
- If you accessed the machine with the BIOS Admin password and the System password is unknown:
- Select Admin Password.
- Select Unlock; enter the Admin password and OK.
- Enter the old Admin password, leave the new password fields blank and select OK.
- The Admin and System Password status will change to ‘Not Set’.
- Exit the BIOS settings and boot into Windows. Pre-boot authentication is now disabled.
Self-encrypting drive access
- If a self-encrypting drive has been initialized during the use of DDPA, please see Operating system inaccessible due to corruption (DDP|A).

- Select and uninstall Dell Data Protection| Access *
- Reboot the machine. *
- Select and uninistall Dell Data Protection|Access|Middleware
- Select and uninistall Dell Data Protection|Access|Drivers.
- Dell Data Protection|Access|Pre-Requisite (XP/Vista OS only)
- Reboot the machine.

Important: We do not support the use of any clean-up tools or registry clean-up utilities. If a third party file/registry cleaner has been used, we cannot provide any additional uninstall assistance as these tools affect files and folders that are required for successful Microsoft add/remove processes.
